Artist's Description

On January 1, every year the Florida Center for Creative Photography club members head out to photograph this Eagle pair, named Duke and Duchess. The pair nest annually near the Gulf of Mexico in Pasco, County, Florida, along the recently paved Coastal Anclote Trail. This multi-purpose trail offers tree-framed pathways, waterfront views and a glimpses of greenery and wildlife. The trail winds through 4.5 miles, interconnecting three Pasco County Parks: Anclote River Park, Anclote Gulf Park and Key Vista Nature Park. The eagles' nest, which predates the trail, is easily visible from the trail. Bald eagle nesting habitats are protected by law, but little or no emphasis has yet been placed on the preservation of roosting or foraging habitats, such as exists in these parks. The greatest numbers of bald eagle nesting territories in Florida are found along the Gulf coast and around some of the larger inland lakes and river systems in the Florida peninsula. I love to tell stories. About twenty years ago I had my first freelance travel article accepted by a magazine. Much to my surprise, the magazine expected photos along with words. I had not taken any during the preliminary work for my article. I drove back to the site and took the photos for the article with my little Olympus digital camera. The article was published with those very amateur photos. In time, I bought an Olympus OMD-EM5, a great camera for nature and travel photographers and discovered that I enjoyed telling stories with pictures more than I did with words. The last twenty year have been an incredibly exciting time as resources for photographers have exploded. I have been lucky enough to have some great teachers along the way...
