Description
These Southern Magnolias flower at the end of spring. They have huge white flowers and large, bright, shiny green leaves. They have a lovely fresh scent that is especially lovely in the early evening.This photo was taken on the Cove Cay Golf Course. One of the neat things about the magnolia is that it is native to Florida The trees grow in the woods, but often you don't know they are flowering since the flowers are so high up in the canopy. I think the ones that grow as landscape plants have been bred to be of the smaller variety. They lend themselves to macro photography because of the dramatic contrasting yellow stamen up against the white background
